Currently, all students must complete their HELB Application Exercise online. The links below will assist students in navigating the HELB Application Portal and locating any HELB loan information.
These loans are intended for students who are entering public or private universities in the East African Community directly from high school, either through the KUCCPS or on their own.
The amounts awarded range from 35,000 to 60,000 depending on the level of need.
The loan for students placed by KUCCPS is split to cover both upkeep and tuition fees. For Government-sponsored students, a tuition fee of Ksh. 4,000 is deducted per semester, with the remainder deposited into the applicant's bank account as upkeep. Tuition fees are deducted at a total of Ksh 8, 000 per year.
For self-sponsored students, tuition fees are paid directly to the university once a year.
The loan is subject to an annual administrative fee of Ksh 500, which is deducted from the disbursed loan.
Very needy government-sponsored students are considered and receive a bursary ranging from Ksh 4,000 to Ksh 8,000 per year, which is paid to the university as tuition.
Students should apply at least one month prior to the opening date to allow for processing and remittance. Every year, the application period runs from January to July.
